The Change Up

So these past few days, Ella has been changing things up a bit. She's been napping earlier and for a shorter period of time in the mornings. And then unbearable in the late afternoon/evening which leads to a late nap. And that late nap leads to NOT going to bed at a reasonable time. Tonight at 6:30 she was sitting on my lap, whimpering. I couldn't get her to settle down. She hadn't had an afternoon nap, but I didn't really want to lay her down just yet. So I just held her...but then she started to drift off. So I thought I'd better get her in her jamas and put her down for the night. But I won't be surprised if she is up at 9 or so to play for awhile. Because she's a turkey, and that is what turkeys do.

I don't know why she's changing things up. We had a good thing going. I new what to expect. I had this thing down pat. And now we're going to have to figure it all out again.

Hmm...didn't even make it to 9, she's crying already, and it's not even 8pm.

Channeling my inner Teen

So last night I did something I have only done once before in my life...and that first time just happened on Friday. Last night I attended a boy band concert, again, but this time it was larger than life. Daniel's boss John Mcfadden gifted us some tickets to the Backstreet Boys concert, tickets for both Daniel and I and for the three oldest girls. It was really such an amazing gift. And we had an absolute blast. The funny thing is that I was never into the boy band craze when I was a teenager. I never really listened to the Backstreet Boys until I married Daniel. Now we listen to them all of the time in the van. The girls all love the music and sing along with Dad when we are driving.

The show was phenomenal. It was exciting and entertaining. At one point they began to sing Kymberly's favourite song "I want it that way" and then they stopped and made a joke about not being allowed to sing that song, and went on to sing other songs. It left Kymberly heartbroken. I could tell something was wrong because she got really quiet and I could tell she was trying not to cry. She was sitting way over on the other side of Dad, who thought she was just tired. I tried to pass a message along to tell her not to worry because they were still going to sing her favourite song, but it was just too loud and nobody could understand what I was trying to say. Finally when everyone was standing, I pulled Kymberly over to sit on my lap so I could talk in her ear and tell her that I could promise that they would sing her favourite song. Once she understood that, she perked up and could enjoy the concert until the moment came for them to sing "I want it that way". And when they did, she flipped out. It was awesome. The girls will be making a thank-you card or poster for John. It was really an awesome thing he did for them.

A Beyond 5 Experience

For Tansley's birthday party this year, I bought her tickets to go to the Beyond 5 concert in Lethbridge. There were enough tickets for her to take two friends, two cousins and Kathryn and I. 

The girls screamed and squealed through the whole concert. It was loud...mostly because of all the screaming coming from the room full of preteen girls screaming for they're favourite band member. But the music was fun, Tansley got to spend her birthday money on a new t-shirt, a CD and some posters that she was able to have the band sign. Tansley's favourtie band member is Zac.

If you haven't noticed, Tansley had this look on her face nearly the entire time. I guess that means that she had a good time and her birthday party was a success.

Funny things the boy says, take two

This morning before I get out of bed, James climbs in and complains that Kymberly was being rude to him. He then says "I was spitting water out of my eyelashes". I laughed right out loud. A pretty accurate description of crying I think.

That kid cracks me up. Last night while cuddling with him before bed I couln't help but feel so lucky to be his momma.

Spring Break? or Winter Break?

Yesterday, April 25 2014, The kids and I decided it was a beautiful day and would be best used doing a little geocaching. So we spent a couple of hours or so driving around the country side in search of treasure.

 Earlier in the week Kathryn and Tansley decided they wanted to camp out in the back yard and since the clothes line tent was already set up from our Court Easter gathering, they camped out in there.

The next night it was pouring rain so they opted to sleep inside as the clothes line tent isn't water proof. But the next day they got the bright idea to set up Kathryn's two man tent. So they had been camping in there. Last night, Kymberly wanted to sleep outside with Kathryn, I warned them that it would be a colder night and that there was a chance of rain. So they planned for the cold and took extra blankets and toques. After they had gone to bed I took a look at the forecast and noticed that they might get a little more than rain as there was a snowfall warning. At 5 am I was up to sooth Ella and cover her back up. She went right back to sleep. I looked out the window and it wasn't raining or snowing, so I thought maybe the girls would be off the hook. But when Daniel left for work at 8am he told me that it had snowed. I didn't realise how much snow until Kathryn came in in her bare feet because her flip flops were buried in the snow and she was getting boots so that Kymberly could come in the house.

Courthouse Easter Fun

Easter Monday we had the Court crew out to our place for a little Easter fun. We started out with an Easter egg hunt and moved into a tasty wiener roast and BBQ smokies. The weather was beautiful and warm. When everyone had had their fill, the kids headed up to the park to work off all the candy they had already eaten from the egg hunt. It was a wonderful day, visiting with wonderful family.

I had made up lists of 15 specific eggs for each kid to find. Each list was different. When they had found their eggs they'd trade them in for a bag of candy.

Miracle on the hill

On Good Friday my siblings and I and our families gathered at my sisters house for our usual Forsyth Easter get together...although it wasn't all that usual since we were missing my parents and we were eating Mexican. It only seemed right since we weren't able to be all together at Christmas eating Mexican. We did the usual Easter Egg hunt and as always we planned to head to the local park to roll our Easter eggs down the hill. As we were just sitting around enjoying each others company after our Mexican feast, someone looked out the window to see some seriously dark clouds moving quickly in our direction. "If we are going to roll eggs, now is the time" the call rang out. So quickly we gathered up the kids and headed out to the hill. Luckily we were driving away from the oncoming darkness. When we arrived, the wind had died down a bit, and the sun was still shining on the hill. So we raced up the hill and the competition began, who could get their egg the farthest without breaking. Dozens of kids and adults kids at heart rolled dozens of eggs, and the rain never came. It wasn't the warmest Easter egg rolling day, but it wasn't the most miserable either. We watched the clouds darken on either side of us, but the rain never came, and the sun continued to do it's best to shine through. We all had fun, and we all left dry, but as we headed out and back toward my sister's house the rain did come, and it poured for a while. It was a wonderful day, as it always when we all hang out together. We even got to skype with mom and dad, we just set them on the table and they got to enjoy the crazy chaos that is Forsyth.
